Kari Carter

Kari Carter was born in Portland, Oregon with a heart for communication and a love of nature. She thrived in a twenty-five-year customer service and business operation career in Oregon prior to departing her home state to work in Reno, Nevada. A single parent of a young teenager, Carter married again and began a series of moves to support her husband’s career. Along the way, her son found his own career path and Carter turned to earning a bachelor’s degree in public administration and organizing major fundraising events for local non-profits.

In her book, Paradise Isn’t Lost, Carter shares her story of moving to Paradise, California three months before the Camp Fire upended tens of thousands of lives. She recalls the fire along with other life losses, jobs, pets, homes, her sense of future possibilities, her marriage, beloved family members and her family support system. Curiosity about the nature of resilience develops and, where the book leaves off, Carter becomes a grief educator. In 2023, Carter draws upon her in-depth knowledge of loss and grief to process the death or her beloved son and ex-husband. As she develops her next chapter of helping others navigate life changes, Carter enjoys attending Grants Pass death café meetings, writing, painting, card-making, and long walks with her four-legged pal Reese.
